Review smartphone BlackBerry Torch 9800 from the perspective of a seasoned traveler and tourist

BlackBerry 9800 Torch has been touted as one of the best smartphones ever produced "RIM" company. Against the background of very different opinions about the new items from the "RIM" company (also referred to as Torch) I was given a task to write a review of this device with the perspective of someone who travels a lot, or a lot of rest.

While the operating system OS 6 already widely touted for significant improvement, in my opinion, it was still released prematurely. The 6th edition of the operating system functions on the smartphone platform BlackBerry Torch 9800 still somewhat properly ... even if Torch 9800 justifies the slogan: "It's not exactly an evolutionary leap, but already more than triple jump!".

I do not have enough user experience, smaller than I expected and / or expected. He was both positive and negative for me. A positive in the sense that the existing restrictions OS 6 helped make this review short and, for this reason, enjoyable. However, the downside is that this device / new operating system have been recently released and now are not enough features to support a variety of standards (except, BlackBerry / RIM).

Problems arose at the first acquaintance with Torch. After unpacking BlackBerry 9800 and pick it up once it became clear that the smartphone is much harder BlackBerry previous devices. Some, perhaps, would say even that it weighs almost like Droid (Droid-ish). However, it takes a little time to get used to it.

When you first start running, I was faced with the fact that in my Torch no firm BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) — client instant messaging. During the holidays (especially when leaving the country) I frequent, regular users ... NO BBM! And I was disappointed when first turning on Torch, discovered that BBM previously not pre-installed in this smartphone. What, you ask ??? Yes, it's true, even the powerful universal search Torch could not find BBM (see. Picture below). The situation has worsened by the fact that OS 6 has signaled a serious error in the system, the warning about the impossibility of download BBM from RIM (Error 907). If I was out of state, or worse, outside the country, it could be a disaster for me.

The disappointment continued when 9800 gave invalid "white screen" in 5 different cases; multilayered battery gave out only the date of the week.

The most notable innovations for me as a traveler are as follows:

Universal Search: When I'm in a new city for me, I usually do not have time to dally. I need answers, directions, contacts, and always NOW! Universal Search lets you use the device name "for these purposes". This is truly one of the most important advantages, which speaks in favor of OS 6. Universal Search helps users navigate through the various screens 2-3 / pages quickly and help you find exactly what you are looking for. Universal search feature that it can be accessed directly from the home page by opening your Torch simple Sliding (slide movement) and typing the text you want to search for. Whether it's an application, contacts, photos, email, text, search for a network, etc. This wonderful feature can save valuable time and a lot of effort. It is a well-known search engine "needle in a haystack" for smartphone 9800.

Keyboard: I really like the fact that Torch has both physical and on-screen keyboard. The company "RIM's" taken the perfect solution to make the keyboard "touch type", replacing thus the technology "surepress" ( «the confident hard pressed"). I do not want to tell you how annoying the sound of clicks during the 3 hour journey from Los Angeles to Las Vegas; even worse - 5-6 hour flight (with the stability of the aircraft on the course). Some of the business people can not keep their CrackBerry addiction under control. In this regard, the virtual keyboard is now offering a silent use of the smartphone.

Battery: Battery life BlackBerry Torch 9800 is not typical for BlackBerry smartphones. The battery life of the smartphone is much more than can boast, perhaps, only Apple devices. Less than 16 hours after the "regular use" slider in need of "recharging" with the charger. Am I on a business trip for business or just traveling for pleasure, I am constantly in motion — from early morning until late evening. And the need to recharge my device would be at such a rhythm nuisance.

Touchscreen: The touchscreen interface / screen needs to be optimized. The existing touchscreen - it is certainly a huge leap forward, however, compared with the iPhone, the touch screen smartphone BlackBerry clearly lagging behind in development. However, in these cases, the presence of the trackpad replaces many functions of the touch screen. Trackpad 9800 smartphone allows the user to use the cursor for more precise trim action on the screen.

Applications of communication and social networking, restaurant reservations, Google Maps and Twitter worked flawlessly in my new BlackBerry 9800 Torch. I was a little disappointed to find that the application TXTLater and World Mate is not supported and there is no new smartphone in 9800. WorldMate keeps my travel schedule for the past couple of years. It is excellent! As for the BBM application, I need to do with the device operation "to remove and reinstall".

Realizing the advantages and disadvantages Torch smartphone, would I recommend it to you, you ask? Hmm ... that's a very good question ... and maybe a little too hasty to give an accurate estimate. Like most smartphones, BlackBerry devices are becoming more and more dependent on the presence and number of applications, registration, order, etc .. In spite of the fact that the new OS 6 shows significant improvements, it still contains some bugs and errors. From time to time, this OS seems to be rather "chaotic", in my opinion, that can ultimately be very frustrating specific goals of users. At the same time I like the direction of the company, coming up with the slogan "Everything is possible to rethink". I believe that is still quite early to predict whether the bear Torch / OS 6 benefit to the end user. At this point it is evident that there is lack of support 6 OS platform.

I can not definitely say whether I approve or not Torch since 9800 / OS 6 have been released recently, and more is yet to come.

I believe that at the moment, Torch slider definitely not justified "triple jump", stated in the advertising slogan. OS 6 still works with errors and cause some frustration. Usually, I just want to learn how to work comfortably with BlackBerry and do things with it. Perhaps I BlackBerry traditionalist or purist, but I just want my BlackBerry made life easier, not complicate it.
